According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 10:03 a.m. Monday, September 21, 2026, on U.S. 64 near Adams Pond Road.

What Happened in the Alexander County Crash

Authorities said a 2024 Ram tow truck was traveling west along U.S. 64 when it crossed the center line and entered the opposing lane of traffic. The Ram then collided head-on with a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer.

The collision resulted in a devastating fire. The Ram became fully engulfed in flames, and Boyette was trapped inside the vehicle. Despite the response of emergency personnel, he sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Freightliner was driven by 56-year-old Crystal Sue Austin of Lenoir, who suffered serious injuries in the crash. She was airlifted to CMC Main for medical treatment.

The severity of the collision also led to the closure of U.S. 64 for several hours while authorities worked at the scene and investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Reports from the scene indicated that a Taylorsville police officer and another individual attempted to help extinguish the flames following the collision.

After completing its investigation, the Highway Patrol confirmed that no charges will be filed in connection with the crash.
